Collagen and Avocado Smoothie with Organic Cacao Powder

What an odd combination - avocado and chocolate flavour? The avocado makes this smoothie really creamy and luscious. The frozen banana has you thinking someone threw in a tub of cream when you weren’t looking, but more importantly it is a fantastic source of potassium and a good source of Vitamin B6. The almonds are a great source of Vitamin E, and along with the pure marine collagen adds high quality protein. This smoothie is very filling and is a great start to your morning. Try it!

Ingredients:

Serves 3-4
1 Avocado - scoop all the flesh out with a spoon
1 Banana frozen (don’t forget to peel it and divide it in half before popping in the freezer)
1 heaped tablespoon of natural almonds
1 tablespoon Cacao powder (or Cocoa)
2 teaspoons of Honey or Maple syrup
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
2 cups of your preferred non dairy milk (try almond, soy, coconut, or cashew milk)
2 teaspoons of Naturalia Pure Marine Collagen

Method:

Load it all in a blender and zap it on high until it is smooth. If you like to chew your smoothies, zap it to your required consistency. Serve in tall glasses or squatty jars, and enjoy!

Super Protein Banana, Date & Nut Muffins

Nutrient dense, containing healthy fats from coconut butter and nuts and seeds, and protein from Naturalia Pure Marine Collagen. The dates help pack a punch with calcium, iron, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium, and zinc, as well as a good source of fibre.

Ingredients:

Serves many

1 cup of coconut flour
1 cup whole self raising flour
1 cup of pumpkin seeds, almonds, cashews (zap in a blender for a few seconds to break them all up into a mix resembling bird feed)
Pinch of salt
¾ to 1 cup of roughly chopped dates (depends on how much you like dates - substitute with dried apple or sultanas)
1 Banana mashed roughly (peeled but NOT frozen this time)
3 tablespoons of Naturalia Pure Marine Collagen
¼ cup of honey (or stevia if preferred)
¼  cup Coconut Oil
1 cup of non dairy milk (coconut goes well with the coconut flour and coconut oil)
2 eggs
½ teaspoon of vanilla extract

Method:

1.Oil a muffin tray, or fill the muffin tray with paper cake liners
2.In a bowl, combine all the dry ingredients, then add the dates
3.Add all the wet ingredients, including the eggs, into a large measuring jug and mix thoroughly with a fork. Add the mashed banana to this mixture.
4.Fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, ensuring that you combine everything thoroughly and all ingredients are coated with the wet mixture. Use a wooden spatula for this, lifting and folding to allow air into the mixture. The mixture should be thick and stick to the spoon, unlike cake batter which is quite runny.
5.Transfer the mixture to the muffin tray, filling each to ¾ capaciy
6.Bake at 180 degrees for 25 minutes, or until a skewer placed in the middle comes out almost clean. The baking time will depend on the size of your muffin tray, and also your oven. You do not want the muffins to be dry, so test at 20 minutes.
7.Remove from oven and place on cooling rack for 10 minutes, and then tip muffins out of tray to cool for another 5 minutes before eating.
8.Sprinkle with Naturalia Pure Marine Collagen, and serve with creamy ricotta cheese and a thin drizzle of warm honey. Yum!

Banana & Almond Smoothie

Yes, bananas! Bananas are a much maligned fruit as dieters think they are just all sugar in a natural wrapper. People avoid them, thinking they will gain weight if they eat them. But! Bananas are good for you. Bananas are packed full of energy, and are a great pick me up. They are also potassium and magnesium rich and full of fibre. If you peel a banana and freeze it, it makes a wonderful creamy addition to any smoothie, whether it is a sweet, savoury or spicy shake (big tip - don’t forget to peel it before you put it in the freezer!)

Add a scoop of The 5:2 Diet Shake (either the vanilla or the chocolate), one frozen banana, and half a dozen almonds to 300mls of water in the blender and you have a nutritious and filling pick-me-up, or substitute meal.  You can eat this smoothie with a spoon!

Loaded with antioxidants and vitamins, green smoothies are a fantastic way to satisfy hunger and offer great nutrition.

In a blender add a scoop of the vanilla flavoured 5:2 Shake, 1 cup of fresh spinach leaves, a handful of fresh basil leaves, one green apple (cored and deseeded), half a frozen banana, and 400mls of water.
